Storage Tips
· Leave
adequate access to items you may need to retrieve.
· Raise boxes up of the floor using 2x4s or thin strips of wood.
· Ventilate your space by leaving air space at walls.
· Clean all appliances and use the inside for storage; leave fridge and freezer doors ajar to prevent mildew.
· Label all boxes and tape them closed to protect them from dust.
· Rubbermaid containers are great for storing items, they have tight fitting lids and stack easily.
· Wrap dishes individually, cushion on all sides of the box.
· Cover upholstered furniture with old sheets or blankets.
· Use plastic mattress covers (to prevent moisture damage).
· Stand mattresses and box springs upright.
· Store sofas and mirrors on their end.
· Store tables upside down and pack books flat.
· If possible, use original boxes to store electronics.
· Use wardrobe boxes to store clothing and draperies. It helps them keep their shape.
· Oil metal items lightly. i.e. garden tools etc.
WHAT YOU CAN’T STORE:
· Trailers, Items on Trailers, Boats, Snowmobiles
· No Transient Vehicle Storage
· No Flammable, Combustible or Hazardous Items
(Oil, Gas, Cleaning Fluids, Paint etc.)
· No Dry Goods (Unless In Sealed Plastic Container)
(Pet Food, Birdseed, or Other Food Items)
